Today was an amazing Sunday! We had scheduled a Water Baptism about a month ago. We didn't know it was going to be over 100 with heat index pushing 110!
This was a service that combined our 9 am and 11 am crowds into one outdoor service at 10:00 am. We had a picnic following.
Last Sunday after our Pizza with the Pastors (which had 20 people attend who have been coming less than 3 months!) one of the famlies signed up to be water baptized along with about 6 others. Cool.
When I looked at the names, I realized that I had wrongly assumed that they were married. In talking with them, they had recently recommited to Christ, and had decided to get married about 6-8 months ago, but have never been able to afford their rings, etc.
Danny and Lisa had been attending for about 3 months. They were sincere about following Christ, so I shared with them a few different Christ honoring options if they were going to continue to live together until they get married. They chose the best option. They called me on Friday and said, "We will get married on Sunday. Right before we get baptized."
The congregation was totally caught off guard. Instead of them publicly confessing their commitment to Christ, they first publicly confessed their commitment to each other.
Afterwards, we took a spontaneous offering so that they could get their rings out of layaway. Tonight they are baptized, married, and wearing their wedding rings!
